Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are small posts that replace the roots of missing teeth. The implant is made of titanium, which fuses with the surrounding bone and becomes a strong, durable foundation for prosthetic teeth. A crown, bridge, or denture is then placed over the implant.

Dental implants are a wonderful option for patients who want to restore their smiles.

How are dental implants placed?

To place a dental implant, a dentist first needs to create an opening in the jawbone. He or she can do this by surgically removing the damaged tooth. Next, the dentist can insert a dental implant into the opening, where it will fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Once this process is complete, the dentist can attach an abutment, a small piece that connects the dental implant to the restoration. Finally, the dental restoration, such as a crown or bridge, can be placed on top of the abutment.

Benefits of dental implants

  • A permanent solution to tooth loss

Dental implants are a permanent solution to tooth loss. Unlike dentures, which are removable, dental implants are permanently fixed in your mouth with crowns. Implants can also be used to stabilize dentures by attaching to implant-supported dentures.

  • Improved appearance

Dental implants can improve your appearance in several ways. Because implants are anchored into the jawbone, they are made to look and feel like natural teeth.

  • Improved speech

Having teeth can make it easier to speak clearly. Dental implants prevent your jawbone from deteriorating, which can improve or maintain your speech.

  • Improved comfort

Unlike a dental bridge or dentures, you don’t have to worry about taking your implants out every night or soaking them overnight. Simply treat them like your natural teeth. That also means you can eat, speak, and laugh confidently.

Plus, dental implants provide stability for your other teeth. They don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support like traditional restorations do. Implants essentially replace your tooth roots, so your other teeth will remain in line as well.

  • Preserved bone structure

Dental implants don’t rely on surrounding teeth for support. Instead, they restore the entire structure of the jaw bone. This allows patients to preserve their bone structure and keep their teeth healthier for longer.

  • Dental implants last a lifetime

Dental implants can last a lifetime. They are designed to last a lifetime, so you don’t have to worry about replacing them, unlike other procedures, such as dental bridges, which need to be replaced every 5-7 years.

Do dental implants require special care?

Dental implants are a permanent restoration option, so they require the same level of care as natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly, and visit us twice a year for checkups and cleanings.
